The Debt of Night. A science-fiction tale derived from the Zulu days of Shaka, the first and greatest of the Zulu kings. The histories that I read had Shaka re-inventing the concept of "Empire" pretty much on his own. The Natal was a bloodbath for forty years. In 'Debt of Night', the human outsiders are fomenting a similar situation on another planet to achieve the same ends. They want to transform pastoral, nomadic tribes into a hierarchal, structured and settled society. Then they will introduce technology and force the development of the culture for their own ends. It is the mirror image of 'STAR TREK', where folk never meddle. Here, things are done without ever asking whether it should be done. The concept of the 'Debt' comes when the project is scrapped by the higher-ups. The field teams feel an obligation to their 'lab rats' and elect to stay behind...hopefully to channel some of the damage

In the splash panel, the raiders are forming up for a new assault on another village. The floating bubble craft in the sky is 'cloaked' and quite invisible to them.
